DIET

Omega 3 Fish Oil

We have all heard of the research which advocates supplementing a child’s diet with fish oil for greater concentration and improved behaviour, however, it has been discovered that it also has a beneficial effect on migraine headaches, particularly in adolescents. In a study conducted over two months, 87% of children reported a reduction in the frequency, length and severity of the headaches.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

This ingredient, which is a strong detergent, is found in shampoos, conditioners, toothpastes and body washes. When combined with other substances it can form nitrosamines which are carcinogenic. It easily penetrates the skin and can lodge in the liver and brain. Sodium lauryl sulphate is commonly found in children’s preparations.

Fluoride

Fluoride has been linked to thousands of cancer deaths yearly in studies in America. The National Cancer Institute U.S.A. also found fluoridation responsible for a large percentage of cases of arthritis, dental deformity and allergic reactions in children.

Arnica

This is an excellent remedy, either in cream or pill form for all the cuts, scratches and bruises etc. which are an occupational hazard of childhood. It can reduce bleeding, inflammation and bruising and when taken orally is also good for shock. It can be easily combined with the “kiss it better” method of healing.

Born with Rhythm

Babies are born with an incredible range of musical abilities, including rhythm, sensitivity to pitch, and reaction to subtle differences in sounds. Week old babies can recognise their mother’s voice in a roomful of other people. Toddlers tend to “la la” before they speak which may indicate singing served as a transitional state when we evolved from grunting primates to talking humans.

A Taste for Sugar

A taste for sugar is acquired through eating more amd more increasingly sweeter foods. Manufacturers encourage children to develop a sweet tooth at an early age: even professed “healthy” cereals will contain fast-releasing sugars along with added sugar to ensure sugar addition. Instead, children should be encouraged to sweeten oats or sugar-free cornflakes with a few raisins or slices of banana, pear or apple.

Physical Awareness

Children who are introduced to reflexology at an early age can gain awareness of their hands and feet which can serve them throughout their life. Touch is a unique form of communication, the benefits of which have been detailed in many
